Ready Player One offers something for all readers. Set in the year 2044, at its heart it's a quest that plays out as a scavenger hunt in a virtual universe. You don't have to be a gamer or understand the 1980's references to enjoy it --it's also a suspenseful romance with an unlikely and loveable hero, a teenage boy named Wade Watts. You will enjoy cheering him on as he tries to beat the evil corporation to the finish line. The suspense will keep the reader riveted and the story of friendship, loyalty and love will warm your heart.

One Book, One Middletown Discussion at Russell Library, Indira Karamcheti, Associate Professor of English at Wesleyan University, will lead a discussion of Ready Player One by Ernest Cline on Wednesday, March 13th at 7pm in the Hubbard Room at Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown. It's "at once serious and playful, that is as fun to read as it is harrowing." Our discussion leader Indira is an Associate Professor of American Studies and Director of the Center for the Americas at Wesleyan. She earned her PhD from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

One Book, One Middletown Film Discussion at Russell Library
Join us on Thursday, March 14th at 7PM in the Hubbard Room for: King of Kong: a Fistful of Quarters Documentary and Discussion, led by film critic Richard Alleva. In this unusual documentary, a middle-school science teacher and a hot sauce mogul vie for the Guinness World Record on the arcade classic, Donkey Kong. Globe and Mail critic Liam Lacey called it "A terrifically entertaining documentary about an unlikely subject..." Come view the film and stay for Richard's discussion. Richard Alleva has been film critic for Commonweal since 1990 and received a B.A. in Drama at the University of Connecticut and an M.F.A. in Playwriting at Catholic University.

March 19 (Tues) 7PM The Making of the Games: Video Game Design and Development Presentation/Discussion by Prof. Ira Fay, Asst. Prof of Game Design and Development at Quinnipiac University Russell Library Hubbard Room

Come join us for: The Making of the Games: Video Game Design and Development presented by Prof Ira Fay, assistant professor of game design and development at Quinnipiac University. Come hear about the creation of the resources for games such as characters, props, sound, and architecture, as well as rules of how a game is played. Ira has said, "The best part about working in the video game industry is collaborating with people who have widely diverse skills to create fun." **Ira Fay has been a Senior Game Designer at Electronic Arts working within the Pogo division for 5 years. He designed several top web games, and led Pogo's Mobile Games team, which created games for iPhone, iPad, and Android.

April 4 (Thurs) 8PM Film Big Trouble in Little China, a 1986 film
with Kurt Russell. Referenced in READY PLAYER ONE, this 80s film is very
much in the spirit of the book -- fun, with lots of action, made by a skilled filmmaker John Carpenter. It is one of those movies that a lot of people may have heard about but not seen.
Marc Longenecker, Technical & Programming Manager, Visiting Instructor in Film Studies will give a short talk before the screening at the Goldsmith Family Theatre, Wesleyan Center for the Arts 301 Washington Terrace
